Take Action: KCMO Bike/Ped Funding Requests

Four priority projects from the Trails KC and Bike KC plans have been submitted for city funding. Your help is needed to let city officials know that these are important uses worthy of government funding. The requests will be evaluated by the Public Improvements Advisory Committee. PIAC is a citizens group that advises the City Council how to spend the city's capital improvements sales tax.

  • Update the Bike KC master plan
  • Connect the Trolley Track and Indian Creek Trails
  • Extend the Riverfront Heritage Trail along the levee

1. Bike KC Plan Update
Update the 2001 Bike KC plan and integrate it with the new Trails KC plan to create a seamless network of on-street and off-street bikeways. The new unified plan would evaluate each street and specify if it should get a bike lane, shared lane, bike route, trail, etc.

2. Trolley Track to Indian Creek Connector Trail (Districts 4, 5, 6)
A 1.8 mile connection that would create one continuous trail from the Plaza to South Kansas City, connecting with the Johnson County trail system all the way to Olathe, KS. This would create a first-class bikeway for one of the region's most popular bike commuter corridors.

3. Missouri River South Levee Trail (Districts 1 & 2)
4.7 mile trail to connect the existing Riverfront Heritage Trail eastward to Riverfront Park. This would almost double the length of the Riverfront Heritage Trail, while connecting Downtown to the existing bike lanes on the Chouteau Bridge.

4. Shoal Creek Trail (Districts 1 & 2)
2.6 mile trail segment that will connect an existing trail on Maple Woods Parkway to trails in Gladstone, providing a five mile network of transportation options for Maple Woods Community College and Happy Rock Park.
