Suburban bus fares increase January 1st
In the new year many suburbanites will see new bus fair in the Missouri suburbs. The #170 Blue Springs Express and the $152 Lee’s Summit/Raytown Express will go up from $2.50 per trip to $3.00, the same price as the #69X Liberty Express. Monthly passess for the Blue Springs and Lee’s Summit services will rise from $78 to $95, while the Liberty pass will stay at $85. In Independence all bus fares will up to $1.50.
Since no suburb in the KC area levies a transit tax like KCMO, bus service is operated on a contract basis and paid out of each suburb’s general fund budget. So it is the individual suburb that largely determines the level of service and price charged in each community.
